I replaced my damaged display assembly and rear case w/out a problem. It powered up and looked completely fixed. Everything functioned perfectly for the rest of the day except the battery wouldn’t recharge. It slowly drained. I left it on the charger over night. The next morning I pressed and held the power button and got the black screen w/ the red-level low-battery charging screen. But the top corners and side of the LCD had a white haze!! I hurriedly unplugged it and it powered off completely, presumably because of the drained battery. So now what? Bad battery? Or did I fry something on the logic board? Have I damaged my brand new LCD screen? Any advice would be appreciated. I’m afraid to move forward until I know more because I don’t want to make things worse.

I’ve faced similar issues before, except for the haze in the corners, and tried a new battery and presto! The phone comes to life and is in business. The batteries on the iPhones are very sensitive, especially if they’ve been removed for the first time. The ease of which you can damage one is just silly….it takes the right tools and patience to remove. If you can, you need to cut the end flaps connected to the underneath adhesive and pull them out from the bottom. When in doubt, as I’ve had a mechanic and other fix-it type friends tell me…start replacing and fixing the cheapest and easiest stuff first. For we mobile jocks, that usually starts with a simple, an inexpensive battery replacement. I am confident in advising that you won’t cause any further damage at least, by replacing the battery.

Hate to say it, but it looks very much like a bad Tristar IC. This is not a DIY repair. You need to find a repair shop that does micro-soldering. You can check my profile as I can do those types of repair but I may not conveniently located. Lots of shops do mail-in repairs, myself included, but if you can find someone reputable locally, that would be ideal for you. At the very least, they can properly diagnose the problem.
