My 7 plus rear camera stopped working. Put a new camera in and works like a dream. Rear camera and flash back on. Now my home button is not working. Any suggestions? Which cross over cables are related to home button function?
The iPhone 7/8 series have a very inconvenient bend on the Home Button flex. It’s really easy to tear the flex, either near the logic board connector or at the 90 degree bend before it sneaks underneath the LCD heat shield. You have to be careful when you lift the screen off the first time but also anytime the flexes are connected and you have the device open. The other area that is easily damaged is the connector on the Home Button itself and the opposite connector on the short flex that runs underneath the heat shield. The long and short of it is that there are multiple failure points. You will need to carefully inspect the Home Button and flex to see if there is any damage. Magnification here will help. Look for tears to the flex or any physical signs of damage. You should also check the connector to insure none of the pins are damage or that there isn’t any debris. Unfortunately, there is no real DIY way to fix a Home Button, only Apple can replace it. EDIT The flex with the smaller connector is the Home Button Flex. The highlighted area is where they tend to tear but sometimes also near the connectors on the flex.
There are a few reasons the home button might not be working. If all you replaced was the back camera then you should not have needed to remove the home button from the screen assembly. All you would have needed to remove was the home button extender flex cable. This is the flex cable that attaches to logic board. As long as you didn’t remove the home button from the screen or remove the bracket, you’re home button should still be fine. Does the phone still respond if you “press” the home button? If so, then you could have simply miss aligned the connector or you damaged the extender flex cable. Either way, I’m sure your home button itself is fine. Might just need to replace the screen or realign the flex cable. If you do need to replace the screen, use extreme caution when removing the home button so you don’t rip the cable. If you break the actual button, you’re screwed.
