Hi Everyone, I purchased a replacement battery for my laptop, it was pretty easy to install. Now it’s installed and it won’t charge / hold charge. The laptop only runs with the power cable connected - that’s how I’m writing this message now. Here’s what coconut says (attached)
I could put the old better battery back in the status was (replace soon) I’m not sure I actually successfully did the SMC but I tried it and it didn’t work. Please help and thank you so much!
It is probably a faulty battery, considering this was not an issue before replacing the battery. If you got the battery from iFixit then email/call customer support and ask for a replacement because iFixit stands behind its products well. This should not be happening. If you did not get the battery from iFixit, get a refund and buy one from iFixit. Getting replacement parts from anywhere else but Apple and iFixit is a roll of the dice. iFixit sells quality parts and if you are not 100% satisfied then they will replace the part/refund the money PS: Now that I think about it, good luck getting parts from Apple, lol! Update (11/02/2018) Ohh that’s a bummer. Sounds like a Logic Board issue to me. Let’s try SMC and PRAM resets anyway. How to reset the SMC, PRAM and NVRAM on a Mac Laptop
I have late 2012 MacBook Pro Retina. Put in a new iProPower (amazon) battery and it would not charge. Power report recognized the battery; said it was 48% charged; gave a capacity of 6700 mAh, but was not charginging. Per a thread I saw while back, remove the MegaSafe charger cable: then: (1) disconnected the battery, but did not remove it (it has adhesive, you know); (2) I held the power button down for 5 sec. , then reconnected the battery. attached the charging cable, and it CHARGED with great Power Report. I did not have to reset the SMC. This may not apply to all cases, but some might benefit if you know your battery is OK.
take a look at some of these answers… also shows the location of the components on the board that you are looking for MacBook not recognizing battery, not even in coconutbattery
