I replaced my iPad Air 2 battery and was able to take it apart and replace it using a kit and a heat gun. Unfortunately after turning it on everything works except that there is waves in the background which is extremely annoying when reading. Watching movies and YouTube you can’t see see it really. It usually shows up on lighter backgrounds. Any ideas? At this point I wish I never opened the thing up in the first place. See photo.

You forgot to enclose the picture but it’s not hard to imagine what you’re referring to. An Lcd module is made out of a number of sheets that act as diffusers/polarizers for the light..probably an excessive heat reached the Lcd and caused the waving. The other alternative would be the Lcd doesn’t lay perfectly flush in the housing and waves might be caused by incorrect positioning. Considering you mentioned the heat gun used as source of heat I’d vote for the first option here but one way or the other is clearly an Lcd issue that would require reopening everything to better assess the damage.
