Hello, I’m thinking of another project. how to:
- reduce needless weight (2.27kg for a 13" is a lot)
- insert 2nd SSD So, I’m searching on the internet and I found OWC doubler costing 29$:
- https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/DDAM… The idea of plastic holder seems great but not ideal for 29$. Is there any other plastic-based converter closer to this price?

First thing here is the optical drive in this system is PATA not SATA! So you need a carrier that converts between the different interfaces which limits you to a much smaller set of units. Here’s the IFIXIT unit: 9.5 mm PATA Optical Bay SATA Hard Drive Enclosure The other problem you face is you’ll need to find a SATA I (1.5 Gb/s) or a SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) SSD as the converter logic is only rated to SATA II. The next rub is the throughput will be much less (about 800 Mb/s) which is the limit of the PATA interface While I commend you of your efforts to make a lighter system there are limits on what you can do here.
