Hi everyone, I unfortunately damaged the screen of an iMac Late 2013 21.5” when replacing the HDD with an SSD and upgrading the RAM, and I’m looking around for replacement screens. I see that replacement screens are more expensive than an actual iMac from that generation, so I’m exploring the option of buying a Late 2012/2013 Mac, taking the screen off of it, and placing it onto my upgraded iMac instead. My question is, will an Imac Late 2012 21.5” screen be compatible with an iMac Late 2013 21.5”? (e.g. Will the ribbon cables be different even though the screen looks the same externally?) Thank you all! JJ
The 2012 & 2013 21.5 iMac’s use the same display assembly! So you technically can swap over the displays from the two systems. But before you go down that direction see if this works for you 2012/13 21.5” iMac Display Assembly, Grade-C, Apple P/N 661-7109, LG # LM215WF3 (SD)(D1) its a lot cheaper than buying another system just for the part! They also have better quality units at a higher cost as well.
