So i just replaced my screen, and it was working fine for like 2 days, then suddenly the backlight is dead. i didnt disconnect the battery when i did it, but it seemed to work for a few days after and just died while i was driving home anyway, i’ve repaired this phone a number of times (battery, headphone jack x2, screen x1) and i would like to repair it one more time;
so, anyone have any idea what parts i would need and a tutorial on how to do it; and where i can get the parts? i’d guess the backlight fuse is blown or something i have a soldering station, and would like to give it a shot before retiring the phone for good.
There is no real way of knowing the parts you will need until you open it up and examine it under a microscope. If you cannot see which part has failed you will need to take some readings with a multimeter. The backlight circuit has a number of components that can fail. Some of the components have underfill glue covering them so they are not easy to see if they are damaged. The components that are on the backlight circuit that can get damaged from a screen replacement without disconnecting the battery or some other electrical fault are. · LCD connector · Shorted capacitors · A failed filter · The backlight driver · The backlight diode · The backlight coil To replace any of these you need hot air station, soldering iron and a microscope not to mention experience.
The backlight components are in red. When you find what component has failed you can order the part from lots of places.
You will need to pick up parts maybe from ifixit and if they don’t have them ipad rehab. You will first need to find what it needs. You will need at least a magnifying glass And volt meter. You will need the schematics which you can get a subscription to from zxw for about 69 dollars. I don’t know if ifixit sells the subscription but ipad rehab does if they don’t.
