Hi, I’m cleaning the back of the display by removing the old adhesive. I’ve noticed that there are two layers of adhesive: the first one is sticky and there are only bits (first image)
the second one is black, smooth and well glued to the display (second image)
Should i remove the second layer?
NO! You went to far… The black tape should not be removed. Carefully lay it back down use some contact adhesive to glue it down. The first image of adhesive is all you’ll need to remove using a Cotton swab (Q-Tip) and some Goof Off you’ll still want to wipe down the area again with reagent grade 85% or better isopropyl alcohol (do to COVID supplies of good quality isopropyl alcohol is very difficult). Make sure both surfaces are spotless of any old adhesive and the tapes you use are fresh in a air tight bag (not dried out). I use a variable temp heat gun to warm the case before I apply the tapes and I also heat up the glass as well so i either is warm to the touch. And lastly I use a J Roller to apply pressure while the glass and case are warm (reheating the edge if needed) Just be careful you don’t press to hard or unevenly or have any dirt on the roller as you don’t want to break the display!
