Chosen Solution
I was wondering if it is possible in theory to dump data from a NAND chip to a larger capacity NAND chip, flash it with the stuff necessary to boot and put it back in the same phone? The reason I ask is because my phone got stuck on the Apple Logo while I was preparing to back it up and now I am stuck on the recovery screen. I have tried to update it many times with no success (Error 14). My suspicion is that the phone is out of storage and therefore cannot complete the update. I have the log files for the update in case anyone has any ideas. Restoring is the last thing I want to do as the data is important. Thanks, guys.
You can’t read or dump the actual data from the NAND in an iPhone. You can get access to the metadata such as SN#, MAC address etc. This is what allows techs to install a different NAND IC and still have the phone work. Unfortunately, when you do this, you lose all of the data. The only way you will get data off this phone is to find a solution to the error 14. This could be NAND or CPU related issue. However, the iPhone X is new and the logic board is sandwiched making troubleshooting difficult. If you want to have a real chance at recovering the data on this phone at this point in time, consider shops such as iPad Rehab in NY or G-Lon or Rewa in China. Or shop around your area but ask them if they have solved iPhone X in general and error 14 in particular.
have any of you able to fix it to this day?
Any luck anyone? Same issues now and desperately needs to recover those data.
