Chosen Solution

Hello, I was asked about and have been doing research to see if I can take an old MacBook Pro 9,2 mid 2012 15” case and put in parts from later variants to upgrade it to a new set of hardware while still having the same old case. The person who is asking dosen’t like the ultra thin cases and wants to be able to work on it and asked me if I could figure out how to rebuild it. I’ve done many PC’s builds but never a Mac rebuild’s so I wanted to see if anyone who know’s more about mac’s and this choice of project that could point me in the right direction for parts or provide a little insight about mod’s I need to make within the case. Thanks in advance for the help and advice.

I do the 2012 13” & 15” machine upgrades about once a month. Forget your fancy new boards. My 2012 will GeekBench out as fast as the 2020 MBA. Plus you can afford to repair it. Get a 2.6 or 2.7GHz machine, install a new hard drive/IR cable, a decent SSD and 16 GB of RAM. I redo the thermal paste and install up to Catalina. I now have a machine that was built well, you can afford to repair and will run with today’s machines at 40% of the cost. It also has the ports I need and an optical drive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jM1brvJ
