im upgrading my hard drive but i cant install the os. i keep getting the screen that says you need to re start computer. ive tried the option and C buttons. what am i doing wrong.
If you just replaced your hard drive please recheck that your memory is properly seated. Whenever I get a kernel panic the first thing I check is memory.
Insert your system installation disk and restart holding down the “C” key. Go to the second screen pull down menu to Utilities > Disk Utility. Select your drive on the left hand cloumn. Format it and give it one partition. Quit disk utility and continue with the system installation.
usually, when i reinstall a fresh OS on my MacBook, i do:
- Reset the PRAM *. turn on your Mac+Hold down the Option+Command+P+R (hold it down till the 3rd reset
- after the reset (I’m assuming that the NEW HDD is installed) insert the OS CD for Leopard or Snow Leopard) *. turn off Mac *. Turn it back on
- hold down Option wait until the screen displays the HDD icon and the CD Rom option (usually, u dnt need to do this for Blank HDD) and let it load
- once loaded, on the top you will see the Mac Utilities option. *. Select Utilities and Disk Utilities to Format the HDD using Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
- after format, close Disk Utility and move forward with the installation.
What about using Recovery Disk Assistant?
