Chosen Solution
Hello, somehow I have a folder that has around 30 sub-folders that I cannot remove using the dos commands rd and rmdir in Vista 64 bit version. I can change the names of the folders, but way down there are a few files, and I cannot delete those files and then start deleting the sub-folders. I get an error message that the names are too long for Windows Explorer to delete the files and a similar message when using rd or rmdir. Thanks for your help. David D.
I have used this program since it came out, with XP. It is freeware. It is a LIFESAVER with XP. I have limited personal knowledge of this working with Vista. A number of people say it works well with it. It is called unlocker it is an explorer extension. Many times you need to restart your computer to get it to delete or move the file(s)/folder(s). In my opinion that is better than any form of the answer “NO” you can’t do this. Please read up on it before you try, here is a link to it: http://download.cnet.com/Unlocker/3000-2…
Here is a link to a Microsoft guide on deleting files. Keep arrowing down and you may find a solution that works. In particular look at the solutions in cause 4. Good luck. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320081
