Hi there, I have a late 2007 white MacBook Core 2 Duo 2Ghz. It came with 1 GB of ram as standard and I want to upgrade to 2GB. However when I insert the 2 x 1GB chips the MacBook does not boot up, I do not even get the chime. The screen is blank, but the sleep light is showing a solid white light. I have tried resetting the PRAM with no effect. I have tried chips from both Kingston and Crucial with the same effect. With a bit of messing about, I have found that Slot/Bank 0 will only take up to 512MB whilst Slot/Bank 1 will accept 512MB and 1GB. No matter what chips I try in Slot/Bank 0 the computer only boots if there is nothing or 512MB in it. As soon as I install a 1GB chip the computer fails to boot. Is there any way to fix this problem and if so what needs to be changed. Thank you.
According to Apple your unit should take 4 GB. You have I’m afraid a logic board problem of some type. You also state you wanted to upgrade to 2 GB. You could install a 2 Gb in the good slot and the 512 MB in the other for 2.5GB. Ralph
If you really have a LATE 2007 model, then it can take up to 6 GB. The only thing is that it has to be memory modules that have the 667 MHz in SPD. At least one of them. Not sure if it has to be in the first slot. I’m runing 5 GB currently, 4GB 800MHz module and 1 GB 667 MHz module.
