I have an iMac 20" / 2 GHz / 512MB RAM computer. There are 2 slots for memory boards EMC No.: 2105. Only one slot is used = 512RAM. Can I purchase an additional 512RAM board without removing my current 512MB board? Or, do I have to remove the current 512MB and purchase a 1GB ram board? Also, please advise specifically which memory board I should purchase? I’m probably not using the correct lingo. Thank you for your help…
Your 20" iMac which is the the early/mid 2006 iMacs (iMac4,1). The maximum RAM for that is 2 GBs. You can mismatch the RAM sticks (1 512 and a 1 gb card) The RAM slots support 200 pin PC2-5300 (667MHZ) DDR2 SO-DIMM
This Machine uses standart DDR2 so-dimms. You can add a second memory card of 512 mb or go straight op to 4 gigs of RAM with two 2gig cards.
