The PSP turns on and works fine but whenever I plug in the usb charger, the system turns off. The usb side doesnt even have to be plugged into anything, once I jack it into the PSP it will turn off. I set it to USB mode but thing works. The battery still charges though.

Are you talking about a cable? If the other end is not plugged into a USB port and the thing is shutting off, that would suggest the cable you are using may be bad - as in shorted. I would try another cable.
