You will need to leave the internal display mounted and connected as the systems SMC logic is dependent on the sensors held within it. As far as using an external display that is possible! You’ll need an adapter depending on what the display offers. As an example: HDMI to miniDP, or VGA to miniDP.

No where can I find out any information about the tape that you remove that holds the original lcd screen to wifi antennas It look like a piece of foam wrapped in silver tape.
